Gallego Advocates for Arizona Housing Programs in Government Funding Negotiations
PHOENIX – Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) called on leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to include additional funding for Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) allocations to rapidly growing communities, such as Phoenix.
“The HCV program provides vital assistance to public housing authorities (PHAs) in communities across the country so they can provide rental-based housing assistance to low-income residents and families. In my home state of Arizona, the rapid growth of our population in the 21st century has meant a shortage of available tenant-based public housing options for low-income renters,” writes Rep. Gallego.
The letter comes a week after Rep. Gallego gathered with local leaders for two roundtables to discuss his efforts to increase affordable housing and tackle the issue of homelessness in Arizona. During the roundtables, he debuted his new fact sheets: Ensuring Affordable Housing & Access to Homeownership in Arizona and Ending Homelessness in Arizona.
Rep. Gallego continues, “Therefore, I respectfully request the inclusion of the Senate language relating to the HCV program, which provides an additional $100 million to cover cost adjustments in voucher allocations for public housing agencies that experienced a significant increase in renewal costs of vouchers.”
